Aptiva 1xx and 3xx MMX Upgrade

The following is a note from cj299@torfree.net, who knows a lot more about the Aptiva motherboard than I claim to. For those wishing to try to upgrade to an MMX, consider this suggestion. Please keep in mind that, as far as I know, it has not been attempted. If you choose to try it and it works, please let me know. Such information would be a great service to us all.

Location J19 controls the voltage to the CPU. I think JP21 should be set to 3.3v (clk). All the "1xx" series (not the 120mhz) have a Shorting Block on the VRE (J19) giving the CPU 3.3volts. A company like Semtech (www.semtech.com) sell a P55C Voltage Regulator Module (VRM) that fits J19 and will deliver the lower core and regular I/O voltage. ZIFF socket 7 does support dual voltage. As long as the jumper settings IBM gave are truthfull than I believe the Intel MMX166 should work. ------------

For information on the locations of these jumpers, please see the processor page.
