Upgrade Your Software for the MWAVE card up to 33k6 and direct sound 3

Aptiva 1xx and 3xx MWAVE card.

Upgrading the mwave card to 33k6 and direct sound 3 support (drivers version 20D) of an Aptiva 1xx and 3xx should be very easy. However when the drivers downloaded from IBM were installed on my Aptiva 172 I lost the midisynth function. It appeared that a driver was loaded improperly when one has more then 16 Mb of ram and a unsupported fix was unofficially released and now an official fix has been released by IBM. This fix works fine but only if the midi instructions in the mwave.ini were correct. I struggled with this for moths and I found an even better solution by istalling the Yamaha soft midi driver for Mwave.Later I succeeded in getting the midifull samples from the restore cd to work with the new drivers by manually editing my mwave.ini . Lateron I installed the IBM official fix (which works fine) and removed the unofficial fix.

The downloading part of it all:

Unpack the files from IBM to diskettes (this will be done automatically by starting the executable) and read the readme file on the disks.

For fix 1, boot in safe mode and copy the original file to xxxxxxxx.old and replace the old file with the fixed file you downloaded.

The Yamaha driver should be installed according the instuctions with it.

GreenBallMy mwave.ini file for the ones that want to compare it to theire's to see what's wrong.
